What is the difference between Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain?

    Huayna Picchu and
Machu Picchu Mountain are two mountains situated just above the antique city of Machu Picchu and they both serve to take some panoramic photos of Machu Picchu. Each mountain entrance has to be booked ONLY TOGETHER with Machu Picchu entrance!! The booking needs to be done enough time in advance as there is a limited number of spaces a day (400 permits per Huayna Picchu and 400 permits per Machu Picchu Mountain as well)! Huayna Picchu is for an extra cost of USD 15 dollars and Machu Picchu Mountain is for USD 10 extra. Your Tour Guide always organises a Machu Picchu guided tour to allow enough time to enter either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain. Please note that your entrance ticket to Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu/Machu Picchu Mountain always displays your name and passport details so it is NOT TRANSFERABLE to another person and NOT REFUNDABLE either!!

    Huayna Picchu Mountain

These are two written options for the same mountain. "Huayna" is a Spanish written option while "Wayna" is in Quechua (native language). However, both options are pronounced in the same way. A climb to the mountain is more popular than a climb to the higher Machu Pichu Mountain, but also can be very crowded. The Wayna Picchu climb is so popular because Machu Picchu can be seen there from an uncommon point of view as well as there is Moon Temple situated. There are two time slots to enter it: 7-8 am and 10-11 am (each has got 200 permits a day, so that 400 permits in total). The climb is quite steep and narrow and it takes about 45 minutes (a round trip takes 1.5 hour) so that people with vertigo may not enjoy it.

    Machu Picchu Mountain

This hike is less popular than Huayna Picchu, however, not less beautiful!! Machu Picchu Mountain is the higher peak above the Incan city and the place from where each postcard's photo of Machu Picchu is taken!! The mountain can be entered between 7 and 11 am. There are 400 permits a day to enter it. This climb is not so steep as Huayna Picchu, but it takes more time - 1.5 hour up and the same time down so that 3 hours in total).
